It's not often you see three matching signets, so we thought this set was rather special. A customer came to us with their own wax seal signet ring and wished to create two more for his sons.

The signet ring shanks are stamped from thick sheet metal, which makes the gold perfect for engraving. Often with casting metal you can get tiny pits and holes within the surface which would disrupt such a delicate engraving. 

We work with a talented local Jewellery Quarter engraver who specialises in delicate hand engraving. He worked from the Father's master signet ring to create two near identical versions. We say near identical because that's all part of the charm of hand engraving and how you can tell a genuinely hand carved piece of work.

If we'd have CAD designed the seal, apart from losing the intricacies of detail - each would be perfectly identical - losing those special elements of distinction and character. 

The engraver tests out the seal as he works, to see how it's coming along and which areas need work. Once finished, he can see the complete engraving on a test piece of wax - which is encased and given alongside the ring. As this is where the seal really shines, in the wax you can see every little line, hair and feather! The detail really is incredible to see up close.
