FAQ
Our Jewellery
-
Joe and Greg, the owners and Goldsmiths here at Element have been making jewellery for 40 years and are brilliant at what they do. If you can imagine it, they can more than likely make it.
Day to day we make wedding jewellery including engagement rings, wedding rings and eternity rings.
We also make necklaces, bracelets, earrings and non-wedding rings.
We work with precious metals including 9ct and 18ct golds, platinum and a wide selection of lab-grown and mined diamonds and coloured gemstones.
-
Yes, it is a legal requirement to hallmark precious metals over a certain weight in the UK.
You can read more about hallmarking here:
The Bespoke Process
-
We usually ask for 4-6 weeks to make a bespoke piece of jewellery for you.
However we will always try to work to your deadline so please get in contact if you need your jewellery sooner.
-
We don't have an appointment system, you're more than welcome to pop in to the shop when it works well for you.
Our open hours are:
Monday - Saturday
10am until 4pm
The shop is closed on UK bank holidays and is also closed between Christmas Eve and New Year.
If in doubt, please get in touch before you plan your trip to us.
-
The bespoke process starts with having a good chat about what you're looking for. We can do this in person or via email.
It's really helpful to get a good idea of your budget, the metal and gemstones you're interested in and the style of jewellery you're drawn to.
When we have a idea of what you're looking for we can give you a few quotes.
We can show you a selection of gemstones in the shop and if you'd like to go ahead with making the piece of jewellery we ask for a deposit.
We will send you a CAD render of your design for your thoughts. Tweaks and changes can be made to the model at this stage. We can show you a 3D printed model of your design in person if you'd find this helpful.
When you're happy with the CAD model we then cast the piece into precious metal and get to work on making the ring in the workshop.
-
Our shop has an on-site workshop where we make all of our jewellery.
We work with a small group of super talented Jewellery Quarter based specialists. Our jewellery is CAD modelled, cast, stone-set, engraved and hallmarked all within half a mile of our shop.
-
It’s helpful if you know the finger size, but we understand that jewellery can often be a surprise.
If the ring isn't the right size once you’ve presented it to your partner, get in touch and we can re-size the ring to fit comfortably.
We can often do this within a couple of hours.
-
Many factors including type and weight of metal needed, the quantity, type and size of gemstones and complexity of design contribute to the cost of a bespoke piece of jewellery.
Get in touch with your ideas and, if you have one, your budget and we can give you some initial quotes.
-
We often work with customers to re-use existing gemstones and/ or precious metal.
Please get in touch if you'd like some advice on re-purposing your existing jewellery.
-
We accept cash or card payments, we ask for a deposit when you confirm your order and the balance is due on collection of your item.
At this time, we do not accept American Express.
-

-
Yes, we're able to post your jewellery to you within the UK via Royal Mail's Special Delivery Service.
Jewellery Care
-
Yes. We recommend bringing your jewellery back at least once a year to have a jewellery M.O.T. – we will check the settings, stones, give the ring a deep clean and a final polish.
-
We strive to make jewellery that lasts, but this doesn't mean that our jewellery is indestructible.
We recommend taking a common sense approach to wearing your jewellery – take items off for sports and the gym, gardening and swimming. We also suggest removing your jewellery if you have a hands-on job or are doing DIY.
We understand that accidents do happen so please get in touch if anything happens to your jewellery and we'll do our best to repair it.
-
Not all gemstones are suited for every-day wear.
The "Mohs scale" rates gemstones from 1 (softest) to 10 (hardest) and gives a good indication of how careful you should be with your gemstones.
Gemstones that are great for every day include diamond (both mined or lab-grown), sapphires and rubies.
Gemstones that need more TLC include pearls, opals and emeralds.
We're here to help, so please get in touch with any questions you have about gemstones.

We're here to help with repairing any jewellery we have made for you.
Our workshop is very busy making exciting pieces of jewellery and, unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to repair jewellery not made by us.
However, we're always happy to give our advice and can suggest local repair workshops within the Jewellery Quarter.
